How to Keep Calm in Times of Confusion

A lot is going on in the world at the minute, and it’s not easy to keep calm and carry on. The ability to manage your emotions and remain calm under pressure has a direct impact on your performance.

The difference between people who are stressed and those who are calm is not the number of things they have to handle in life; it’s how they handle them.

Besides increasing your risk of heart disease, depression, and obesity, stress decreases your cognitive performance. Keeping calm is the best way to prevent stress. It is the skill of having peace of mind despite the chaos around you and it requires not letting the environment affect your cortisol levels.

Here are some tips to help you on your way:

1. Let go of things you can’t control

We often stress about things we’ve done in the past or about the outcomes of things we can’t control. Instead of worrying, practice letting go and learn to recognise situations you can do something about and the ones you can’t.

2. Breathe

One of the easiest ways to relieve stress lies in the everyday act of breathing. By concentrating on your breathing, you will begin to train your brain to focus solely on the task at hand and help to rid you of stress.

When you’re feeling stressed, take a couple of minutes to concentrate on your breathing. Close the door, put away all other distractions, sit in a chair and just breathe. The goal is to spend the entire time focused only on your breathing. https://www.deeph.io/the-healing-power-of-breathing/

3. Stop Negative Self-Talk

A big step towards managing stress involves stopping negative self-talk in its tracks. The more you think negative thoughts, the more power you give them. Most of our negative thoughts are just that — thoughts, not facts.

4. Cultivate gratitude

Research conducted at the University of California found that people who worked to cultivate an attitude of gratitude each day experienced improved mood, energy, and physical well-being. It’s likely that lower levels of cortisol played a significant role in this. https://www.deeph.io/the-power-of-gratitude/

5. Try meditation apps to keep your stress under control
